Very fine quality antique Indian teak wood writing desk or occasional table (called Meji in Hindi) with lovely colour and proportions dating from c1900, with remnants of the original blue paint. Antique tables and desks from India come in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced the land over centuries. Our genuine antique Indian desks and tables offer a stylish alternative to modern and reproduction furniture for your home. Normally constructed from teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood, this is a fine original teak wood example from the early 20th century, with lots of original paint. This was almost certainly commissioned by a high quality domestic residence rather than an office or industrial setting because of the fine quality carving and colour, and would have been an expression of social standing and cultural refinement. It has two fully functioning drawes and would make for both a fantastic desk or side table in any room in the house. It is an old piece made by hand many years ago, with a beautiful colour and patina which really shows its age and history, and there are some historic repairs and age related marks and wear and tear as you would expect for an item of this age. Please be sure to check all photos as these form part of the description.
