Description
A fine and well proportioned antique teak wood painted Pitara or Dowry Chest on raised ‘ball & claw’ feet. With lovely original iron fittings, this early nineteenth century example is in great original condition. Originating from southern India, this would have been used to securley store cash, coins, jewels, silks, silver and manuscripts. This one has lovely patination built up over many years. Today they are used throughout the home as coffee tables and storage units. As with all antiques, there are minor blemishes and bumps, with signs of minor sensitive early restoration, as you would expect with an object of this age. Dimensions: Length 72 x Width 55 x Height 67cm
